Agency Rx for Oklahoma Program Recognized in National Report

December 2008-Each year, Community Action Agencies across the country report outcomes to the National Association of Community Services Programs. This report reviews how the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)-funded network of state and local agencies helped individuals and families overcome economic insecurity in FY 2007. On page 7 of the report, Northeast Oklahoma’s Rx program is highlighted. Click here for report.

Partnership to Develop Rent to Own Single Family Units

January 2009- Neosho Ridge is a new planned single family rent to own development in Miami, Oklahoma for families with very low and low-incomes. The development includes 24 three-bedroom houses with attached garages.  Units are rented to income eligible families for 15 years. At the end of year 15, they can opt to purchase the home if they wish to become a homeowner. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2009 and available for rental in the spring of 2010. This development is made possible through a partnership between Northeast Oklahoma Community Action Agency and a private developer. Funding for the development has been secured.

Agency Executive Elected President of State Community Action Association

October 2008-Northeast Oklahoma Community Action Agenices Executive Director, Jean Cooper was elected by her peers to serve as the President of their Association. The Oklahoma Association of Community Action Agencies represents the Community Action Agencies of the state in coordinating and promoting local agencies in their efforts to reduce poverty throughout the state.

Agency Executive Elected Vice- President of Governor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness

October 2008-Jean Cooper, the agency’s Executive Director, was elected to serve as the Vice-President of the Governor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness (also known as GICH). She is an appointee to the Council by Governor Brad Henry. The GICH works to coordinate efforts among state agencies and community providers to improve services to the homeless of the state.
